Top 5 Wednesday - Favorite Character Tropes

This is the first top 5 Wednesday that I'm participating in, but I've been following the videos by BookTubers that I watch on YouTube and have been wanting to participate for months. Top 5 Wednesday is a book group (the link to the group is here) on GoodReads created by GingerReadsLainey.

Today's Top 5 Wednesday is my Favorite Character Tropes, which means I spent way too much time pursuing TVTropes in order to find the exact names of my favorite tropes for fun.

5. Betty and Veronica

This trope is when a love triangle consists of two characters who have drastically different personalities. I find a lot of people hate love triangles, but I love them, especially when I can pick my favorite of the two because of the characteristics that I personally find attractive. There's nothing about rooting for your own team. It makes me want to read the book even faster just so I can figure out who the protagonist is going to end up with. Go team Peeta!  Go team Jem!

4. Fiery Redhead

A lot of my favorite characters are fiery redheads, such as Alanna, Molly Weasley, Clary Fray, Tris Chandler (Circle of Magic), Dairine Callahan (So You Want to be a Wizard), etc. I think my liking of this trope probably started from reading Madeline when I was a young child.

3. Badass Bookworm

A bookish character who you wouldn't suspect to have mad skills, but actually does and will kick your butt if you aren't careful. Some of my favorite characters who have this trope are Hermione Granger, Nita Callahan (So You Want to be a Wizard), Tris Chandler, and Tessa Gray. I just love books, so any characters who have the same passion for books, who also happen to be tough, are automatically going to be a favorite of mine.

2. Face-Heel Turn

A good character turns bad for any kind of reason. I usually like the characters that gradually turn bad by the choices that they make, which were originally well-intentioned. Yagami Light in Death Note and Walter White are a couple of my favorite characters who fit in this category. The best thing about these characters is that usually they end up paying for the bad decisions that they made and that makes it all the sweeter for me to watch/read.

Does anyone know of any books that have a face-heel turn character in it? I would love to read them.

1. Sweet Polly Oliver

A female character disguises herself as a man to accomplish something. I love this character trope. It's not only the character trope of my favorite Disney character, Mulan, but it's also a character trope for many of my favorite books: Alanna the Lioness and Eon/Eona. There's just something about having to hide that you're female while among a bunch of men. The best part is when another guy finds the girl attractive (but doesn't know she is a girl) and then worries he might not be straight, and even sometimes the guy turns out okay with it. If this character trope is in a book, I know it's going to be awesome.

Any suggestions for books that fit this trope would be well appreciated.

Feel free to share your blog posts or videos of your favorite character tropes and I'll try to read/watch and comment on them.
